Century has revived its vacuum-sealed watch concept with the Mastersphere, ref. VAC.S.V.50i.S.S1. It runs on a restored vintage ETA 2837 beating at a high 5Hz (36,000 vph), with a day-date display. The one-piece steel cushion case measures 36mm wide and 9.7mm thick, with a 24-facet sapphire crystal and 100m water resistance. Black, light-blue and copper dials are each limited to 88 pieces, 264 in total, priced at $5,300. The technology goes back to a 1950s patent by founder Hans Ulrich Klingenberg.

Why it matters: It brings back a near-forgotten piece of Swiss technical history and uses restored vintage high-beat movements, which is unusual.
